The Royal Ballet’s 2015/16 season announcement is headlined by four world premieres for the company, with a variety of repertoire old as well as new.
Two one-act ballets will be choreographed by Wayne McGregor and Christopher Wheeldon, Liam Scarlett will choreograph his first full-length narrative work using Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (a co-produciton with San Francisco Ballet) and there will also be a new production of Carmen by Carlos Acosta (a one-act ballet programmed alongside Scarlett’s Viscera, Jerome Robbin’s Afternoon of a Faun and George Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky pas de deux).
The iconic Frederick Ashton’s The Two Pigeons will return to the company's repertoire in November for the first time in 30 years, placed within a bill that includes Monotones I and II. It will return again in February with Rhapsody, which is to be restored to its original designs with sets by Ashton and costumes based on William Chappell’s designs.

With Kevin O’Hare in the driving seat of the company, there are more choreographic opportunities to be had in order to encourage and nurture talent within the company. There has been huge debate of late regarding the lack of female choreographers in the ballet world, and arts industry in general.
This year however, young Charlotte Edmonds is the recipient of a 12-month stint of being mentored by O’Hare and McGregor, where she will shadow the company and visiting choreographers, as well as creating work. Edmonds is currently studying at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, although her early training was at the Royal Ballet School. This year will also see Edmonds become the commissioned choreographer for the Royal Academy of Dance's Genée International Ballet Competition.
Five Royal Ballet School graduates will be offered one year contracts with the company under the Aud Jebsen Young Dancer Programme, and more excitement comes in the form of Kenneth MacMillian’s Romeo & Juliet opening the season, in which there are promised a number of exciting debut performances.
The Royal Ballet will also tour to Japan for its summer tour.
