The King and I from across the pond

indexOn Broadway, The King and I has recently won four Tony Awards, a fantastic achievement. Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reviewer for musical theatre remarked, 'I doubt I'll see a better production in my lifetime', testament to the huge talent of the show. The production won awards including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Costume Design of a Musical. As a Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic production, The King and I, aside from celebrating an astonishing triumph at the recent Tony Awards, has been a firm favourite with fans of the decades old musical film. On Broadway, the highly-acclaimed production is currently playing to sold-out houses on Broadway, presented by the Lincoln Center Theatre in association with the Ambassador Theatre Group. The King and I is also being presented as part of a wealth of successful national tours for the Ambassador Theatre Group, including Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, East is East, Inala and Rocky Horror Show. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrjmK2YdZQ0 It seems news from the musical will break soon, with Ambassador Theatre Group customers invited to sign up to be the first to hear about the potential UK production of The King and I. These signed up customers will also be granted access to priority pre-sale tickets when booking opens and special behind-the-scenes previews. With many new musicals and productions hitting the West End of late, it is no wonder this delightful musical may be waiting for its London transfer. Over in New York, The King and I is directed by Tony award winner Bart Sher, featuring a cast of more than 50 people, along with a jaw-dropping set design and a score of well loved and well known songs including Getting to Know You, Whistle a Happy Tune and Shall We Dance?
