The deep, dark wood-dwelling creature of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s creation will return to the West End this July when Tall Stories’ acclaimed production of The Gruffalo arrives for a summer season at the
Lyric Theatre. To the delight of young audiences everywhere, this popular tale can now be experienced on stage too. The Gruffalo tells the tale of the furry monster with turned-out toes and a poisonous wart at the end of his nose, and will play from 1 July-6 September at the London venue.
Young theatregoers aged three and older are invited to join the beloved little character Mouse on a daring adventure throughout The Gruffalo tale, in search of hazelnuts as she meets the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the party-mad Snake too. Mouse must make sure she doesn't end up as dinner for these many woodland creatures, outwitting them all with the story of the fabled Gruffalo and armed with just a nut map and huge amounts of courage!
Based on the award-winning picture book by writer/illustrator duo Donaldson and Scheffler, The Gruffalo brings to life the tale with music, comedy, physical theatre, all suitable for the little audiences which will attend the performances. The production is full of fun and just a little bit of scare, thrilling its audiences and leaving them wanting more.
The much-loved family production will play daytime performances at the Lyric. This will be alongside the long-running musical hit Thriller Live, which will continue to bring the music of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 to the stage in the evenings after recently celebrating its seventh year at the venue. The Gruffalo's forthcoming run marks the production's first summer season in the West End after entertaining audiences over numerous festive periods in London.
