Burn the Floor descends

Burn the Floor has returned to London with the UK premiere of its international smash-hit Fire in the Ballroom. Playing at The Peacock until 5 November, it is a high-energy ballroom dance spectacle set to delight audiences with an infectious sense of fun. The production features 14 champion dancers who will take to the stage with a number of ballroom and Latin dances, which will be tweaked in order to breathe new life into the classics. Dances will include those such as the Viennese waltz, foxtrot, samba, tango and jive, an eclectic mix to suit all tastes. The dancers will be backed by a live band, with singers re-interpreting a diverse range of music from Santana to Led Zeppelin, providing a musical backdrop for the multitude of dances. This new production of Fire in the Ballroom has been created over the past two years by choreographer Peta Roby, based on original choreography by Jason Gilkison. It works to push dance boundaries to new heights in terms of standard ballroom and Latin dances, firing up audiences with the slick routines. Gilkison and Roby are World, British and International Latin Dance Champions and have danced for over 35 years. Gilkison has previously worked on television series So You Think You Can Dance and is also Director of Choreography on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing. Since 1999, Burn the Floor has performed in over 150 cities across 29 countries, and entertained audiences in theatres from London to New York, Shanghai, Sydney, Tokyo and Cape Town. The show takes the social traditions of ballroom dancing to a new level, breaking rules and new ground, as a contemporary fusion of dance styles, energy and excitement. There will be free post-show ballroom classes on 25 October and 1 November.
