Recognised as the leading platform for British dance, British Dance Edition will see 36 established and emerging companies performing during a four-day period from 15 to 18 March. Companies presenting their work range from those with an established dance following, such as Akram Khan Company, Phoenix Dance Company and Wendy Houstoun, to artists who are now beginning to have an impact on the world of dance, such as Lost Dog and Robbie Synge.
BDE is a unique opportunity to see dance works that are ready for touring both in the UK and internationally, in addition to having a chance to network with dance promoters from around the world, to explore collaboration and commissioning opportunities, and find other ways of supporting dance and its cultural infrastructure. Over 370 delegates are expected at the event, and People Dancing (formally Foundation for Community Dance) is to stage a members’ gathering and network session at the event in association with Rubicon Dance. The members' gathering at BDE will feature guest speakers and international artists who place participatory dance at the centre of their work.
In addition to the performance programme taking place in four venues, 11 companies will be pitching ideas and a further 20 plus will be taking part in the large-scale trade show. BDE 2016 will be descending on Wales in March, bringing a diverse programme of dance to Cardiff and Newport in the venues of Wales Millennium Centre, Dance House and Chapter in Cardiff and The Riverfront in Newport.
The programme spanning the four inspiring days is aiming to present an eclectic mix of large and small scale contemporary dance for its BDE audiences. The full programme has now been announced and includes the very best of UK dance artists and companies.
