As the result of a new partnership between the Australian company CinemaLive and the Australian Ballet, dance and ballet fans around the world will have the chance to watch the company on the big screen. With performances by the Royal Ballet already established on the cinema screen as well as on stage, in addition to other internationally renowned ballet companies, ballet dancers down under will soon be seen on screen too.
The first programme planned is entitled “The Fairy Tale Series”, made up of David McAllister’s The Sleeping Beauty, Alexei Ratmansky’s Cinderella and Peggy van Praagh’s Coppelia. Presenting these ballet ‘cornerstones’ will set the programme off to a great start, enabling what are usually distant and international audiences to watch Australian Ballet in action. The programme is expected to be shown in over 600 cinemas worldwide, in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Central America and South America.
Australian Ballet’s The Sleeping Beauty, which premiered in 2015, will be the first production to be shown in cinemas, winging its way across the world in October 2016. Next up will see Ratmansky’s Cinderella receive its cinematic world premiere in late 2016, following performances of the production at the London Coliseum in July. Coppelia will additionally be performed down under in Melbourne and Sydney in late 2016, before being released on screens for the rest of the world to see in 2017.
